LINO LAKES, Minn. (AP) — Northbound Interstate 35E has been closed in Lino (LYE’-noh) Lakes after the carjacking of a taxi in Minneapolis turned into a chase that ended with the shooting of a suspect.
Authorities say the suspect hit spike strips authorities laid across the freeway at the 35W/35E split. They say the suspect got out of the disabled cab holding a gun and was then shot.
Police say the chase began around 5 a.m. Thursday after the suspect allegedly stole a cab near downtown Minneapolis.
The suspect’s condition has not been released, but the State Patrol says the troopers and police involved were not injured.
Authorities plan to release further details at a news conference at 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Safety in St. Paul.
