Wayne Lee Bye, 90, of Austin, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Adams Health Care Center, Adams.

Wayne was born June 25, 1920, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Walter and Sadie (Mommer) Bye. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1937 and on July 5, 1941, married Irene Mahoney in Grand Meadow. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1944 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. Wayne moved from LeRoy to Austin in 1951 and worked at Hormel Foods from 1951 until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin, American Legion Post 91, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216, Eagles Club and Local 9. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife: Irene Bye, Austin; two sons: Dennis (Gretchen) Bye, Lake City, Steve (Sue) Bye, Minneapolis; granddaughter: Susan (David) Pohlman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three great-grandchildren: Julia, Ryan, Justin; sister: Naida Samuel, Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Bridget Pickavance in 2006, granddaughter, Barbara in infancy, one brother, Knute and one sister, Lois Mahoney.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Austin at a later date. The family prefers memorials to donor’s choice or the MS Society.
