Gladys Pauline (Nelson) Delmont, 91, of Valley Village, Calif., passed away at Woodlawn Care Center, Reseda, Calif.

Gladys was born Aug. 24, 1919, to Guy Ole Nelson and Harriet Melvina Root Nelson. On Feb. 13, 1937, she married Dean H. McFarland in Northwood, Iowa. They later divorced. On May 18, 1947, she married James J. Delmont in Albert Lea. She graduated from Austin High School and attended Junior College in Mason City. She was a homemaker and a HHA for Mower County in the 1970s. They lived by the dam on East Side Lake for many years. She also worked briefly for the Mower County Shopper. Glady was formerly of Austin until 1976, when the family relocated to North Hollywood, Calif. Gladys enjoyed reading, radio, family and annual Vegas trips.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Dean McFarland of Washington; daughter, Laura Lee Delmont of California; grandchildren, Michael and Mindy McFarland of Washington; several nieces and nephews, Bob Guild Jr. of Iowa, Diane Eggemo of Minneapolis, Jeannie Thompson of Vegas, Robert Schmidt of Reno, Peggy Boik, William Nelson of Austin, Charles Nelson and Joanne Goodale of Iowa, Rochelle Nelson of Austin; great nephews and nieces, Lynne Boyer of Albert Lea, Jim Nelson of Duluth, Nancy Clingman of Austin, Lori Siege of Iowa, David Nelson of California, Mike Bjorgo of Austin, Kris Huemann of Iowa, Jim Guild-US Army, Kimberly Guild, Sara, Jennifer and Susan Guild of Iowa, Scott, Chris and Katie Boik, Andrea Nelson, Kelly Goslee, Daniel Nelson, Connie, Sherman and Michael Goodale, Bill, Kathy and Jeff Russell of California, Tim and Tom Bjorklund of Colorado, Debra, Julie, Tammy, Patricia, Barbara and Kelly Thompson, Becky Egemo of St. Cloud.

Gladys was preceded in death by her sons, David and John Delmont; parents, Guy Ole Nelson and Harriet Melvina Root Nelson seven brothers and sisters, Lloyd, Clara, Russell, Dorothy, Alice, Lorna, and Raymond. She was also preceded in death by Lois LaValley, Robert Nelson, Kenneth “Shag” Nelson, and Judy Bjorgo of Austin; Dean Nelson, Michael Guild and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday March 31, 2011, Pacific time. Memorials are preferred to the family at 6546 Densmore Ave., Van Nuys, CA 91406. Pierce Brothers Valhalla of North Hollywood, Calif. is in charge of arrangements.
