Floyd August Waletzki, 82, of Eyota passed away March 20, 2011, at his home.

Floyd was born July 24, 1928, in Austin, to Anton & Catherine (Braun) Waletzki. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 and served his country in the Korean War and upon returning from Korea he was honorably discharged in 1954. At 16, he was an over-the-road truck driver across the United States, Michigan, Texas and California. In 1967, he started employment with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a bridge worker. Floyd retired in 1991 as a Bridge Maintenance Supervisor. He married Dorothy Decker on Oct. 3, 1959. After they were married they lived in Austin. In February of 1968, they moved to Eyota.

Floyd was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He believed in a close family. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota, the Eyota American Legion Post 551.

He is survived by three sons, Larry (Karen), Gary (Kay), Terry of Eyota; seven grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; one brother, Frank (Delores) of Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Cherry Waletzki, two sisters, Eldora Huffman, Violet Smiler, two brothers, Rudy and Terry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota with father Kurt Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schad and Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Eyota American Legion Post 551.
