It was around last year at this time when I heard that Austin may be getting itself a junior hockey team and I must say I had my doubts at first.

Was it going to work and would anyone even come to the games?

A year has passed and after covering a few Bruins games this past season, I can honestly say the team is a great thing for this town. Right from the start with their laser light show for starting lineups and a new jumbo-tron, the team injected some much needed life into Riverside Arena.

They played fast and the games were always fun to watch.

The Bruins also drew quite a crowd as they filled up Riverside and got it rocking.

I’ve never been a huge hockey fan, but the Bruins definitely got me a little fired up for the sport on the ice.

Here’s hoping the Austin Bruins stick around for awhile.
