Board may submit CRWD rules for review

Eighteen months of deliberating may lead the Cedar River Watershed District to submit its rules for state review on Wednesday.

At the monthly meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, the CRWD board of managers will make the decision if they want to consider any more outside input about the rules or if they want to submit them.

Although there’s no deadline, CRWD board members feel they may have most of the wrinkles ironed out.

CRWD met with the city of Austin Monday morning to discuss the rules and the effect on the city.

“We have met with the county and the city,” CRWD Administrator Bev Nordby said. “There’s a few issues there yet; the board will have to decide what they want to do. We’ve talked about these things for 18 months. The board has worked extremely hard on (draft rules) and they’re ready.”

Other items to discuss at the meeting include water quality results from 2010, farmland drainage and nutrient removal and the 2011 annual plan.
