Alice was a woman of many varied interests. In addition to working in the family businesses for many years, she loved playing golf, and would drop anything for a bridge game. She belonged to a bowling league until her late 70s. She belonged to a woman’s investment group, was an active member of the Albert Lea Country Club and Green Lea Golf Course. She traveled throughout Europe several times and even visited the Great Wall of China in her seventies. While visiting her grandson in Ecuador, she even walked an unpaved path to a peasant village and stayed on a hard cot in a hut in the village. Alice especially enjoyed her friends and doing family activities.

Her family would especially thank St. John’s and Sheltering Arms for the wonderful care and kindness she received from the staff during her final days.

Alice is survived by her two daughters: Karen Trow and husband, Tony, of Albert Lea, and Joan Meixell of Minneapolis; grandson, Anthony Trow and his wife, Lorraine, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren: Brienna, Kaitlyn, Michael, Nicholas and Cayla; two sisters: Lilly Leeper of St. Paul and Viola Nelsen of Albert Lea; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Ingeborg Heggelund; husband, Merton Meixell, on Nov. 14, 1977; and sister, Helen Heggelund.
