The Austin wrestlers fell to Mankato West 52-22 on the road Monday.

Devon Felten, a 103-pounder, and Brennen Russell, a 112-pounder each picked up first period pins for the Packers and Brandon Cotter won with an 11-3 major decision.

“Brandon Cotter really is coming into his own at 125,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “He is gaining confidence match by match and starting to open up more on his opponents.”

Thomas Herrera picked up a 5-3 win at 215 for Austin.

“Thomas is really wrestling well right now,” Kinney said. “This is in contrast to the end of the season last year. He is focused on a strong finish to his season and career.”

While Thao Doan, Pedro Ceballos, Michael Gaines, Mitch Tebay and Joe Williamson were all pinned, Kinney liked the effort they gave him.

“I was really pleased with the fight demonstrated by Thao Doan, Pedro Ceballos, Michael Gaines, Mitch Tebay, and Joe Williamson,” he said. “They were all facing much more experienced wrestlers, and still worked solid technique and battled to the end.”
