Mower County Sheriff’s deputies busted a party of more than 50 people — some underage — at the closed Windmill Inn and Suites in Dexter Saturday evening.
Thirteen juveniles were cited with minors at the party, including a male and female who were serving alcohol from behind the bar.
Sheriff Terese Amazi said whoever orchestrated the party was renting out rooms for $30 a night and was expecting a band to come in later in the night and play for party goers in the bar area. Amazi suspects the parties have been recurring, but the owner of the hotel said he was unaware that rooms were being rented or drinking was taking place.
Although police would not disclose who let people into the hotel, they said attendees of the party did not break in and actually had a key to the building.
Since the Windmill has been closed for quite some time, the owner no longer has a liquor license or innkeeper’s license, Amazi said.
Deputies seized the cash register and the $177 in it for evidence.
Amazi said the matter is still being investigated.
