The Lyle/Pacelli boys basketball team hung on to beat Grand Meadow 66-60 in GM Tuesday.

The Athletics (5-11 overall, 5-7 SEC) trailed by two at the half, but they got a boost from sophomore guard Skylar Meyer who had 30 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four blocks.

“Skylar came to play tonight, which was nice to see,” L/P head coach Casey Anderson said. “The kids played really well and they came out with a lot of intensity.”

GM (4-14 overall, 4-9 SEC) was led by Caleb Leichtnam, who had 35 points and 17 rebounds and Bryce Benson, who had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.

“Benson is a workhorse and we really didn’t have an answer for Leichtnam,” Anderson said.

The Larks were slowed down by having three starters fouled out with eight minutes left in the game.

“Defensively we need to do a better job of staying on the floor and not trying to block every shot that is taken,” GM head coach Chad Burmester said. “L-P did a good job with their full court press forcing us to turn the ball over and it cost us the game.”

L/P scoring: Skylar Meyer, 30; Ryan Rust, 11; Max Brennan, 9; Mike Kline, 6; David Diang, 5; Mike Hutchinson, 3; Colton Scherer, 2; free throws: 43 percent (14-for-33)
