Fairy tale scheduled for Paramount

There are flights of fancy afoot at Paramount Theatre this weekend as Matchbox Children’s Theatre presents “13 Bells of Boglewood,” a fairy tale featuring frightful trolls, forest fairies and fantastic costumes.
“It’s a really fun story,” said Jennifer Dreyer, the play’s assistant director. “Especially for this time of the year when everyone’s cooped up, it just has a real outdoorsy feel to it.”
The story centers on two young men looking for gold and the decisions they make to find buried treasure. While one follows his conscience, the other falls victim to his greed with the help of the forest’s Greedy Bogle, a troll who loves gold.
The play, put together since the first week after Christmas break, has been put together in less than a month with many new faces to the theatre, according to Dreyer. It’s also Dreyer’s first time as an assistant director, while Matchbox mainstay Cameron Davis is helming the production and overseeing set construction, which will feature very tall set pieces “up to the roof of the Paramount,” Dreyer said.
In addition, the play’s fairies, fearless adventurers and trolls all have brand-new intricate costumes, making the show very design-focused.
“13 Bells of Boglewood,” will occur at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. ,and Feb. 5 and 6. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and are available at HyVee, Paramount Theatre’s Box Office and at the door.
“It’s just pure imagination and fun,” Dreyer said.
