WINONA, Minn. — A 22-year-old man is in jail after police say he attacked another man with a machete in a Winona home.

Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams says the 19-year-old victim from Viroqua, Wis., was attending a party at the home when he asked to use a basement bathroom early Saturday.

When the victim entered the basement, another man who lived in a room in the basement told the victim he could not be there. The suspect allegedly then took a swing at the victim with a machete, which struck the victim’s left hand as he tried to defend himself.

A second man, who was with the victim, tackled the suspect and took away the machete.
