Loyd Lee Sasser, 79, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at his home in Blooming Prairie.

Loyd was born in Dallas, Texas, on Aug. 12, 1931, to Loyd and Dessie (Ponder) Sasser. He graduated from Bakersfield High School (California) and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He married Annette Srsen on Nov. 25, 1960, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc, Mich. They made their home in the Davison, Mich., area until moving to Blooming Prairie in 1973. Throughout his career Loyd worked as a cabinet-maker, manager and salesman and was employed at Owatonna Manufacturing, DS Manufacturing, Diamond Jo Casino and Sears. He retired from Sears in 2004. Loyd enjoyed woodworking, reading, and watching the Minnesota Twins. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and dedication to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter Julie (Peter) Fryer of Chatfield; daughter Jennifer (Bill) Walsh of Blooming Prairie; grandchildren Sam Fryer, Nick Fryer, Molly Walsh and Adam Walsh; brother-in-law, Lyle (Beth) Srsen, sister-in-law, Joanne (Dick) Gulickson, nieces and nephews. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and his sister Helen.

Following Loyd’s wishes, his body was donated to Mayo Clinic through their Anatomical Bequest Program to help further educational research. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home. Private services and interment will be held at a later date.
