City Engineer Jon Erichson has every reason to be proud of himself.

Erichson was named the 2010 City Engineer of the Year by the City Engineer Association of Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon.

In recent years, Erichson has obtained $8 million in federal and state funds for flood mitigation projects in the Austin area. He has also led the $28 million flood control project that has been ongoing since the flood of 2004.

“I am convinced Austin has received millions of grant dollars from state and federal sources as a result of his expertise in writing grant applications, thorough project administration and his reputation as a professional that will see the funds are spent appropriately,” City Administrator Jim Hurm said.

Erichson has played a major role in public works projects, including expansions and upgrades to the Austin Municipal Airport and the wastewater treatment plant. He has also helped plan and develop around 13 miles of local pedestrian trails.
