The Austin girls hockey team fired off the most shots, but it didn’t matter on the scoreboard as they lost 6-2 to Dodge County in Riverside Arena Tuesday.

The Packers (4-11 overall) fired off 50 shots, but Wildcats goalie Anna Hunter stopped 48 of them. The sophomore has a save percentage of .934 on the season.

“There were some saves she made that I couldn’t believe,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “She’s their backbone.”

Austin fell behind 3-0 early in the second period, but senior forward Valorie Bates knocked in her first career goal to make it 3-1 and Kirsten Stanek finished a powerplay to make it 3-2.

Austin played the game without two of its top defenders as Vanessa Talamantes and Justina Talamantes had a family obligation.

“We had to make some line changes, but we handled it well and we played a good, aggressive game,” Bray said.

Allison Hoban had 30 saves for the Packers.
