Charles Remington

Charles William Remington, 88, of Austin died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Spring Valley to Frank and Lyle (Herron) Remington. He moved to Austin at the age of four, graduated from Austin High School in 1941, and served in the Army Air Force from November 1942 through February 1946 during World War II. Charlie married Helen Chapek on Oct. 6, 1946. She preceded him in death after 54 1/2 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Annette Marie Remington.

Survivors include his children Raymond (Cheryl) Remington, Austin and LaVonne (Ed) Mathewson, Maple Grove, Minn.; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a step brother: Gene Wilson, Red Wing, Minn.

Charles was a boiler operator for Hormel Foods, retiring after 41 years of services. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1216 and the American Legion Post 91.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Toschak officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.
