The Austin gymnastics team fell a little short of Winona by a score of 133.9-132.7 on the road Tuesday.

The Packers struggled on the beam as four out of five of their gymnasts fell down.

“If we could’ve had a better night on the beam, we would’ve been fine,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “We’re struggling with keeping our tempo up and staying on.”

But Raymond’s biggest concern came in the vault, where the Winhawks outscored them by 1.5 points.

“We don’t have a pit, so it’s tough for us to practice certain vaults,” Raymond said. “We could be a lot more competitive in the vault if we had a pit to practice in.”

The Packers were solid on the floor where they scored a season-high 35.3 points as Abby Bickler scored a 9.0, Selena Hataye had an 8.95 and Carolyn Hackel scored an 8.9.

“We’re ahead of where we were last year on the floor and I’m pleased with it,” Raymond said. “Selena still has some tumbles to add and she’s capable of putting up a 9.5.”
