Vikings boys best Pine Island

The Hayfield boys basketball team eventually handed Pine Island it’s 27th straight loss with a 67-52 win, but things didn’t always look certain for the Vikings (2-0 overall) in Pine Island Tuesday.

The Vikings led just 23-19 with two minutes to go in the first half when Bobbie Stephens scored six straight and Brady Kramer added another six straight points to close the half with Hayfield up 35-19.

“They can be a scary team to play,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said of Pine Island (0-2 overall). “They’re doing every thing they can to end that losing streak.”

Hayfield’s lead was cut to seven in the second half, but they closed out the game strong.

Sophomore center Brady Stevens had a career-high 16 points and freshman Cole Kruger had eight points and 10 assists in the win for Hayfield.
