Thieves loot SCSU students’ digs

The take from Leyse’s house included two flat-screen TVs, a couple of Xbox video game systems and a laptop.

Leyse said he wasn’t insured, and unless the burglars are caught with the loot, it’s not likely he and his housemates will recoup their losses.

He said it was the second time he’d been victimized in that home. Earlier, someone kicked open his bedroom door during a party and took a laptop. About a month ago, he said, a burglar or burglars struck a home kitty-corner from theirs and took an Xbox and television.

Leyse, who estimated his TV was worth $1,700 to $2,000, said he’s thinking about moving to a more secure place.

“I’ve already talked to a bunch of people about what apartments they live in,” said the 20-year-old junior from Maple Grove. “I’ve got to get into a place that has an automatically locking door, so not just anyone can get into your place.

“I’m really angry. It’s like they were assuming people were on break and figured they had all the time in the world to figure a way to break in.”
