Stevens lifts Hayfield boys to a win

The Hayfield boys basketball team closed out strong in a 58-56 win over Kenyon/Wanamingo (1-2 overall) in Hayfield Tuesday.

Hayfield’s Tyler Krekling set up sophomore center Brady  Stevens with a lay-up to put the Vikings (4-0 overall) up for good with seven seconds left in the game and Tyler Anderson stole a lob pass from K/W to clinch the win.

Hayfield trailed 54-52 with two minutes left in the game but Brady Kramer scored on a lay-up to tie it up with 1:45 left and then the Vikings got a steal with 1:30 left. They ran off most of the clock before Stevens’ score.

Hayfield had some big shots down the stretch as Bobbie Stephens responded to a K/W three with a three of his own and Anderson responded to a K/W three with a score.

“I told my team it would come down to who executed better and both teams actually ended up executing, we were just fortunate enough to have the last possession,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.

Hayfield led 26-20 at the half after mounting a 17-0 run over a seven-minute stretch.
