Sherlock Holmes has nothing on these guys.

Patrolmen Todd Clennon and Pat Retterath are the front runners for two open detective positions at the Austin Police Department, Police Chief Brian Krueger said Friday.

Clennon and Retterath scored the highest out of five patrolmen during the day-long testing process Thursday. Clennon has been with APD as an officer for 11 years and Retterath has been with APD for 12 years.

If Krueger recommends the two men for the detective openings, the mayor needs to agree with the recommendation and then City Council will likely vote on it at its Dec. 20 meeting.

Krueger said he spoke with the mayor and is confident Clennon and Retterath will be his recommendations to the City Council.

“I don’t see any reason why these two would not be the next two detectives,” Krueger said.
