The Austin gymnastics team beat Faribault 131.1-124.75 in the Austin YMCA Thursday.

The Packers had three of the top four all-around gymnasts and senior Selena Hataye took second, while eighth graders Carolyn Hackel and Abby Bickler tied for third.

“The girls are starting to make improvements and conditioning is starting to come together. After seeing the routines tonight we have a definite plan for improvement,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “Carolyn Hackel had a good night in the gym. She did not have the best night she could have since her beam score was low but it was nice to see her finish in the top three of the all around.”

Austin dominated the vault competition as it took four of the top five spots, with Hackel taking first.

“The girls are throwing vaults right now that we know we can land,” Raymond said. “We are working some more difficult vaults in practice and are looking forward to the break so we can put in some extra time.”

The Packers also took the top four spots on the floor.

“I am really excited about this year’s floor routines,” Raymond said. “The girls each have a routine that fits their personality. This allows them to perform it at their best.”
