The Austin gymnastics team took second of four teams at a quadrangular in Rochester Friday.

The Packers tallied a score of 132.6, while first place Rochester John Marshall had a 133.9. Rochester Century was third with a 122.9 and Mayo finished with a 61.6.

“We’re starting to dial in a lineup but it’s been a long process,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said. “We’re hoping to get our score up to 135 by Christmas.”

Austin senior Selena Hataye, who competed in club gymnastics in Rochester before this season, had a big day for the Packers as she took third in all-around competition.

Hataye was fourth on the vault and beam, and fifth on the bars and floor.

“She did a really nice job and she looks really good,” Austin head coach Mark Raymond said of Hataye. “We’ve just got to change a couple of things.”

Raymond said that Hataye’s experience has been valuable for a team that fields a few middle schoolers.

“Selena’s a great kid with a really positive attitude and she’s easy to coach,” he said. “It’s nice to have her experience as a senior to help out the younger gymnasts.”
