The Lyle/Pacelli boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker in its season opener at Alden/Conger Tuesday

Alden/Conger’s Michael Bemal finished the Athletics off with a lay-up as time expired to give the Knights (1-0 overall) a 55-53 win.

L/P led early on, but the game was back-and-forth for the last eight minutes.

“We jumped out early but then we kind of fell apart and they started playing their way,” L/P head coach Casey Anderson said. “It was a fun game down the stretch. The kids played hard and the hustle was there.”

L/P played the final stretch without Skylar Meyer and Colton Scherer, who both fouled out. Max Brennan and Ryan Rust each scored 11 points to lead L/P (0-1 overall).
