Huskies top Austin girls 8-1

The Owatonna girls hockey team put Austin away in the opening period as they won 8-1 in Owatonna Tuesday.

The Packers (2-5 overall, 0-4 overall) allowed six goals in the first period, including five in the last two and half minutes of the period.

“We’ve got to find a way to win in the Big Nine,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “But our girls didn’t quit and I’m proud of them. They skated hard to the end.”

In all, the Huskies (3-1 overall, 2-0 Big Nine) out-shot Austin 54-14.

The Packers lone goal came from Kirsten Stanek in the second period.

Sam LeBarron had 11 saves and allowed all six first period goals and Allison Hoban stopped 35 of the 37 shots she saw in relief.
