DULUTH — Outgoing U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar is talking to the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute about a possible role.

Lee Munnich of the Humphrey Institute confirmed to the Duluth News Tribune on Thursday that the institute is exploring options with Oberstar, including visiting scholar, lecturer or author.

Munnich says Oberstar has a “rich history in transportation” that the institute wants to tap into.

Oberstar, a 36-year House veteran, was upset by Republican newcomer Chip Cravaack in November. Oberstar has said since the election that he wants to be part of public policy after leaving office in January.

On Thursday, Oberstar presided over a meeting of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for the last time.
