The blustery weather buried more than just people’s yards.

The Austin Human Rights Commission was forced to postpone last Friday’s showing of “Welcome to Shelbyville,” a documentary currently on tour around the nation which shows how a community in southeast Tennessee deals with racial, immigration and religious issues.

According to Kirsten Lindbloom, chairperson of the HRC, the showing at Frank W. Bridges Theatre at Riverland Community College was cancelled due to threatening weather conditions. The documentary showing would have been followed by a discussion featuring one of Shelbyville’s residents and a representative of Active Voice, one of the organizations which is sponsoring the tour.

Lindbloom said the showing would be rescheduled at some point past the HRC’s Martin Luther King Jr. event in January. The Human Rights Commission will meet Tuesday to decide when.
