The Packers held Waseca to just two shots in the third period of a girls hockey game on the road Saturday.

The trouble was the Bluejays (1-1 overall) connected on both of those shots as they came from behind to beat Austin 7-6.

Carley Grunewald scored with 13 minutes left in the game to give Austin (0-3 overall) a 6-5 lead, but the Packers couldn’t hang on, despite outshooting Waseca 35-20.

Austin racked up nine penalties and goalie Sam LeBarron had just 13 saves in the loss.

“The goaltending wasn’t where it should’ve been and we’ll have to work on some things,” Austin head coach Denny Bray said. “The (penalties) were unacceptable. We were a skater short for a whole period, although we did do an excellent job on the penalty kill.”

Austin was 1-for-3 on powerplays, but it allowed one shorthanded score and Waseca was 2-for-9 on powerplays.

Grunewald and Alex Larson finished with two goals and an assist, while Ashley Arhart and Abby Gallaher each had one goal and one assist.

Vanessa Talamantes and Kirsten Stanek each had one assist for Austin.
