Jill DeMeyer and Lindsey Haney had a vision of creating a top-quality salon with a down-to-earth atmosphere. When the two opened the doors of the Style Lounge Salon on Main Street this week, they saw that dream come true.

Though the salon just officially opened to the public, the concept behind the business is nothing new to DeMeyer and Haney.

After working together for a few years, the two made the move to venture out at the beginning of the summer.

They decided to set up shop in the site of the old Marty’s Hobby and Crafts store — but before they could do business, they had some serious work to do.

With the help of construction workers and local interior designers, the two were able to create a modern look, while also maintaining the historical aspects of the building.

“We wanted something new and different, while keeping some of it original,” DeMeyer said. “We wanted to keep that (original) and add things to compliment it.”

In the end, their vision was created.

“I’m amazed at how it came together,” Haney said.

The brick walls of the building maintain the historical feel, along with the original staircase and retro curtains, which the two found at a thrift shop. The new colors added to the accent walls and ceilings, as well as furniture, follow the color theme of a peacock feather.

With the doors now open, the two are thrilled to get back behind the chairs and do what they love most — styling.

Currently, the Style Lounge has six full time stylists, but there’s room for more.

“It’s all about teamwork,” DeMeyer said. “It’s a very fun and relaxed working environment.

The atmosphere is created around the salon’s lounge theme. With a hair style, cut and color menu named after lounge-type drinks, customers are exposed to something a little different. In fact, there’s even a happy hour.

“We were looking for something that was fun and unique,” DeMeyer said.

In addition to its full hair service salon status, The Style Lounge Salon also offers facial waxing and services for children.
