Riverland women fall to NIACC on late shot

The Riverland women’s basketball team scored just 18 points in the second half of a 60-58 loss to Northern Iowa Area Community College in Riverland Gym Saturday.

The Blue Devils (2-3 overall) led 40-26 at the break and they never trailed in the second half until NIACC hit a jump shot with one second left in the game to decide the contest.

The Blue Devils also missed five free throws down the stretch to open the door for NIACC.

RCC’s offense hit a slump against NIACC’s zone.

“They went to a zone and we didn’t adjust very well,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said. “NIACC is a very good team and they picked it up offensively in the second half.”

Austin grad Krista Viehauser scored 21 and Mankato West grad Brooke Rosenstiel added 15, but not other RCC player scored more than five points.
