The Riverland men’s basketball team opened its season with an 8-0 run and it never looked back in a 109-48 win at University of Wisconsin-Richland Center Wednesday.

All 12 players scored for the Blue Devils (1-0 overall) and Denzel Smith of Kenosha, Wis. led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

“It was nice to see our team come together as one unit and make the extra pass on the offensive end,” RCC head coach Dan Swift said. “On the defensive end we were active the whole game. Our guards did a good job at keeping the up tempo pace and realizing when to pull out and get a good offensive set.”

RCC put up 60 points in the first half and focused on defense in the second half.

“We wanted to make sure we defended with the same intensity as we did in the first half and our guys kept up that pressure for forty minutes,” Swift said.
