Retaliation for reporting vet abuse investigated

HASTINGS, Minn. — Two top administrators at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings are on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation into reports of retaliation against patients who complained about care.

There are 170 veterans who live at the home and receive medical care and rehabilitation therapy.

KARE-TV reports the investigation began when Sen. Al Franken received letters of complaints from families about the incidents. Franken says there were reports of retaliation against patients who complained about care.

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs deputy commissioner Gilbert Acevedo says he can’t be more specific about details because of the ongoing investigation.
