Riley Brolsma might be a guy, but he understands the importance of purses in women’s lives.

That’s his motivation behind the opening of Austin’s newest handbag store, Ooh La La.

The store, located on Main Street, is set to open at 8 a.m. Friday, just in time for the biggest shopping day of the season.

Brolsma said his life growing up in a family of primarily women prepared him to get into the field.

“I grew up with all women in my family, and they all love to shop,” Brolsma said.

A sign in the store that reads, “A woman’s handbag holds secret powers,” wraps up what Brolsma learned long ago.

The store carries a wide variety of purses, for people of all ages. Brolsma also said the variety caters to those who are looking to spend a little or a lot. In addition to purses, Ooh La La carries scarves, hats and other fun accessories for women.

“I think this area could use a lot of stuff like this,” Brolsma said.

All of the products sold in the store have been collected and purchased from places throughout the world.

Brolsma, co-owner, said plans are in the works to open similar stores throughout southern Minnesota.
