Evelyn M. (Dorn) Vollum, 90, of Albert Lea died Nov. 19, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Austin to Raymond “Honey” and Alice (Bendickson) Dorn. She was married in 1942 to Lt. John H. Nelson, who was killed in action in Guam during WWII. She was later married for 56 years to the late Orville M. Vollum of Albert Lea. She moved from Austin to the farm near Lerdal with Orville in 1948, and embraced the new life style. The focus of Evie’s life was always being a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother to her family and extended family. She loved the family lake home built by her parents near Elysian, Minn., where she hosted many family functions. She was a member of the East Freeborn Ladies Aid, Quilting Club and, along with Orv, helped found the Albert Lea Art Center. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by children: Don Nelson (Diane) of Valparaiso, Ind.; Charles E. Vollum of Albert Lea, and Marcia Stoos (David) of Naperville, Ill. Four

grandchildren: Jay Nelson of Breckenridge, Colo.; Drew Nelson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Cheyene Vollum of South Ogden, Utah and Laura Keller of Lakeville. One great-granddaughter Makenzie Keller, the recent light of her life; Sisters-In-Law: Jeanette (Robert) Mortenson of Albert Lea; Elaine (George) Reed of Annapolis, Md.; Dr. Muriel “Mimi” Vollum of Charlotte, N.C.; Phylis (Wilbbur) Minkel of Mankato.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother Donald Dorn of Austin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Matthew Griggs will officiate. Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the East Freeborn Lutheran Cemetery Fund, 23758 785th Ave. Albert Lea, MN 56007.
