The Austin Police Department ran an alcohol compliance check at Austin restaurants and liquor stores Monday afternoon.
During a compliance check, APD sends in a person under 21 to attempt to purchase alcohol. If he or she is not carded, the establishment fails the check.
Of the 12 locations checked, only five passed.
“That is rather high,” Police Chief Brian Krueger said. “Obviously we’d love to see zero (fails), but that’s not the case. It is a little alarming.”
If an establishment receives three fails, it loses its liquor license for three days and also must pay a hefty fine.
Krueger said the compliance reports have been forwarded to the city attorney’s office.
