An Austin woman was taken to Austin Medical Center by ambulance Thursday afternoon after getting rear-ended by a man in a pickup truck.

Madelon Collette, 83, was sitting in her Mercury Sable at the intersection of 12th Street and 10th Avenue Southwest when the pickup hit her from behind.

Sherburn Roberts, 75, was driving the pickup and had apparently been reaching for something in his vehicle when he struck the car. He said he did not notice her stopped in front of him.

Collette complained of back and neck pain and shortness of breath.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said the city attorney will review the incident and possible cite Roberts with inattentive driving.
