As the mother of teenage sons, I taught them to fight fair. I wish Jeff Ellis would do the same in the sheriff’s election. I’ve seen his literature, but his statements are unsupported. Where is his evidence?

Statements like, “I will save the county a quarter of a million dollars,” are bold. Tell me how and prove to me that it is in the best interest of the county. Saving money while sacrificing safety is not a good trade-off. He will work with ICE? The Sheriff works with ICE in her capacity now. What will Ellis do that will be revolutionary? Bad personnel policies abound? I’ve talked to some county employees, they disagree that the department is dysfunctional. Evidence, I need evidence.

I will be watching the upcoming debates this week. I’m hoping all viewers insist on hearing evidence and not innuendo. Don’t take broad statements as fact. The county commissioners gave our county a nice justice center (and no, the sheriff didn’t have a vote, remember that when you vote for county commissioners) let’s give the responsibility of running it to the only candidate with jailer, budgetary and management experience.
