The Southland volleyball team opened the Section 1A West Division playoffs with a 25-14, 25-11, 26-24 win over No. 12 seeded Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf in Adams Monday.

The No. 5 seeded Rebels (11-15 overall) were led by Jana Schammel, who had eight kills.

Southland will travel to No. 4 Waterville/Elysian/Morristown (18-9 overall) Thursday at 7 p.m.
