The Austin had its season end in the first round of the Section 1AAA volleyball tournament at Rochester John Marshall Wednesday.

The eighth-seeded Rockets topped No. 9 Austin (3-16 overall) by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in Austin head coach Darica Schneider’s last match at the helm.

“It was a nice effort and it’s the best we’ve played against them this year in three matches,” Schneider said “It was fun to coach a great group of girls.”

The Packers were close in all three games, but they struggled with the jump serving of JM senior Taylor Thompson, who served the last four points of game three and she also had two five-point serving runs in the first game.

“(Thompson) was a good jump server and we looked a little scared back there,” Schneider said. “Once they made their runs, we couldn’t seem to get momentum back.”

Austin had led 14-9 and 18-15 in game two but it couldn’t hold on.
