Nicholas Steven (Hondo) Wagner, 59, of Champlin, formerly of Austin, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at his home.

Steve was born July 13, 1951 in Austin, the son of Thomas and Betty Wagner. There he was raised and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1969, where he was a standout basketball player for the Shamrocks, earning all-state honors his senior year. He later graduated from Austin Community College in 1971.

He spent many years in the construction business, much of this time as a union tender for bricklayers in the Twin Cities area.

He was united in marriage to Shari Walters on Oct. 12, 1991 in Minneapolis. They moved to Champlin in 1997.

He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park.

He is survived by his wife, Shari Wagner of Champlin; sons: Adrian (Pam) of Eagan; Ryan of Maple Grove; Matt of Champlin; daughter, Kira of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Kylie, Benji, Emily, all of Eagan; brothers: Dan (Sue) Wagner of Longmont, CO; Greg (Wendy) Wagner of Longmont, CO; Pat Wagner of Phoeniz, AZ; Chris (Anne) Wagner of Bloomington; sisters: Ann (Orin) Hanson of Brooklyn Park; Sara (Joe) Eastman of Grand Rapids.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Tom Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Brooklyn Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
