The Lyle/Pacelli football team couldn’t keep up its solid play in the second half of a 41-20 loss to Houston in Art Hass Stadium in Austin Friday.

The Athletics (1-4 overall) pulled to within 28-20 at the half after fullback Garrett Jenkins broke two touchdown runs of 65 and 59 yards. The 65-yarder came on third and long.

“Garrett did a great job running the ball. He came up on quick dives and broke some tackles,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said. “It’s good to see different people stepping up.”

Houston (3-3 overall) recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half and scored on a two play, 21-yard drive to take over the game.

“We were right back in it at halftime and that turnover on the kickoff killed us,” Buntje said. “We also had some dumb penalties.”
