The LeRoy Fire Department and Mower County deputies responded to a large grass fire on Highway 56 and County Road 6 Saturday evening.

The fire was unattended and originated in a burn pit but had spread beyond the pit when the fire department and deputies arrived.

The fire was extinguished, and when deputies contacted the property owner the next day, he said he thought the fire had been put out for the night and must have reignited.

No property was damaged during the incident.
