Gordon Curtis Unverzagt, 80

Gordon Curtis Unverzagt, 80, of Dexter died at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24, 2010.

He was born March 4, 1930, to William and Anna Marie (Hanson) Unverzagt in Sargeant, Minnesota. Gordon worked as a cream dumper at Dexter Dairy from 1949 until 1951 before entering the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in November of 1953. He married Sandra Wilmot on May 25, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Elkton. Gordon worked at the elevator and various other agriculture related businesses in the area. A volunteer firefighter in Dexter, he liked to be outside working and doing repairs, including lawn mower repair. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Dexter; four children, Curt (Lori) Unverzagt of Brownsdale, Cory (Shelly) Unverzagt of Rochester, Craig Unverzagt of Dexter, Chris (Tammie) Unverzagt of Byron; five grandchildren, Kristi (Burt), Matthew (Sara), Andrea, Eric and Alex Foote; one great granddaughter, Addison; brother, Robert (Vivian) Unverzagt of Austin; sister, Darlene (Otis) Mullenix of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Eldon, Herbert, Roland, Roger and Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at Dexter United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Dexter Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 140. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
