The Adams Fire Department and Mower County deputies responded to a combine fire in Taopi on Thursday afternoon.

The fire, which started in the engine, took place at 14791 710th Ave. in Taopi, at the residence of Gene Kiefer, 43.

The combine, a John Deere 7720, was a total loss. The estimated cost of damage is $20,000.

Kiefer was not injured in the fire.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said farm fires are common this time of year due to the dryness of crops and the amount of dust in the air.
