The Austin High School bowling team had another day of mixed results on Saturday. With competition taking place at Striker Lanes in Stewartville, the varsity team split their two matches.

The first match of the day found the Packer varsity team up against Red Wing, the newest member of the conference. Austin just couldn’t’t seem to put together a consistent game, other than the second game of the match. That game ended in a tie, with a score of 198-198. As a result the Wingers won the match 4.5 games to .5 games for Austin (ties count as half a game).

Kody Phillips (11-for-13, 84.6%) and Matt Breitbarth (8-for-10, 80%) led the way for the Packers. Close behind were Troy Peil (3-for-4, 75%), Cole Kroneman (7-for-10, 70%) and Chance Felten (4-for-6, 67%). Other Austin bowlers in the match were Lauren Schabert and Collin Bailey.

The second varsity match found the Packers shooting against a much-improved Rochester Mayo team. The Spartans were in last place in the conference standings. They showed they could still make things interesting, though, with the match not decided until the fifth, and final, game.

Austin started out with the same inconsistency seen in the first match against Red Wing. The Packers quickly recovered, though, winning games two, three and five to claim the match victory.

Leading the Austin effort were Chance Felten (8-for-8, 100%), Kody Phillips (14-for-15, 93.3%), and Matt Breitbarth (8-for-10, 80%). Other Austin bowlers were Cole Kroneman (6-for-10, 60%), Collin Bailey (3-for-4, 75%), Lauren Schubert (4-for-6, 66.7%) and Troy Peil (1-for-2, 50%).
