“The kids came out and played awesome,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “I didn’t realize how truly fast we were until tonight. We’ve got a lot of weapons to use and it was a great effort. They played out of their heads.”

Kennedy was pleased how his team responded to two major injuries — fullback Ben Wolterman is out for six to eight weeks with an injury and offensive lineman Steve Sathre will be limited throughout the season with an injury.

“To play as well as we did without two key guys, that’s hard for me describe how big that is,” Kennedy said.
