Nelson Brothers to hit Austin

Austin will get a slice of rock ‘n’ roll history Saturday when the Nelson brothers perform at the Paramount Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

Gunnar and Matthew Nelson will perform hits made famous by their father, Ricky Nelson, in an acoustic show.

“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a great show,” said Scott Anderson, operations manager at the Paramount.

The twin brothers are a third generation of music entertainers, and Anderson noted they’re one of very few families to hold that distinction. Their grandparents, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, stared on the television show “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” for 14 seasons.

Ricky got his start on his parents’ show, but he went on to establish himself as a rock ‘n’ roll star with hits like “Poor Little Fool,” “Hello Mary Lou,” and “Garden Party.”

Ricky, who received a Golden Globe for his acting, was inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame on Jan. 21, 1987.

Along with their father’s music, the Nelson brothers’ show will feature video clips of never before seen footage of the Nelson family and celebrity interviews. Anderson said the multimedia aspect of the show is rare for such a performance.

“It’s just so fitting for their kind of show with their history,” Anderson said.

Tickets are $31.50 for main floor seating and $26.50 the balcony. Tickets are available at the Paramount, 125 Fourth Ave. NE, or online at www.paramounttheatre.org.
