Mildred Anna Vick, 90

Mildred Anna Vick, 90, of Austin passed away on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Society in Austin.

Mildred was born Dec. 16, 1919 in Bemidji, to Joseph and Clara (Peterson) Johnson. She grew up on a farm near Guthrie, where she attended country school and graduated from Bemidji High School. Mildred moved to Minneapolis and worked at Glen Lake TB Sanitarium in Eden Prairie. She met and married Nels G. Vick on May 1, 1945 in Duluth. Mildred also worked at a TB Sanitarium while in Houston, Texas. They lived in Houston, where Nels was stationed and moved to Austin, after WWII was over. Mildred was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin.

Mildred enjoyed raising her family, attending big band dances at the Terp Ballroom in Austin and playing various card games. She also enjoyed traveling with her family to her home in Guthrie and to Nels’ home area in Houston and Fillmore Counties in southeast Minnesota. In her later years, Mildred enjoyed quilting with the Tuesday sewing group at Grace Lutheran Church and was a member of the Golden Age Card Club.

Survivors include three daughters: Carol Jean Kincs (Charlie) Miller, Goodlettsville, TN; Marsha (Gary) Pike, Apopka, FL; Cynthia (Loren) Allas, Austin; one son, Gregory (Debra) Vick, Albert Lea; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nels; grandson, Aaron Matthew Pike; granddaughter, Heather Nicole Vick; two sisters, five brothers, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held 11a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating, assisted by Intern Rob Zahn and with messages from guests, Chaplain Teresa Turnbull of Good Samaritan Society-Comforcare, Austin, and Pastor Kent Otterson of Good Samaritan Society-Comforcare, Albert Lea. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
