Harriet Elyce Baier, 86

Harriet Elyce Baier, 86, of Ely passed away on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at the Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1924, in Austin, MN to Frank and Echo (Messenger) Swatosh. On Nov. 15, 1942, she married Robert Baier and they lived in Brownsdale, MN for nine years until moving to Austin, and had been Ely residents since 1967.

Elyce was a homemaker and owned and operated the Dew-Drop-In in Austin.

Elyce is survived by her husband, Robert Baier, Sr., of Ely; four children, Elizabeth (Donald) Peterson of Austin, Robert (Sheryll) Baier, Jr., of Ely, Patricia (Raymond) Marsnik of Ely and Barbara (Steven) Fultz of Babbitt; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; eight siblings: Delbert (Arlene) Swatosh of Seattle, David Swatosh of Minneapolis, Thomas (Judy) Swatosh of Golden Valley, MN, Jean (Dick) Tourville of Ely, Catherine (David) Buxton of Austin, James Swatosh of Minneapolis, John (Priscilla) Swatosh of St. Louis, and Linda (Robert Distad) Messenger of Minneapolis.

Elyce was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Swatosh.

The family would like to thank the Ely Nursing Home staff for the excellent care and compassion shown to Elyce and her family.

Per her request, there will be no formal service. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the First Lutheran Church in Ely. Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia, MN.
