Gloria Delone Opsahl, 83

Gloria Delone Opsahl, 83, of Austin, died at her home Wednesday morning, Sept. 22, 2010. She was born Sept. 12, 1927 to Olean and Ella (Holland) Erickson in Fillmore County, Minnesota. She attended Scheie Country School and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1946. She married Leland Housker on June 6, 1948 in Spring Grove where they owned and operated Housker Tavern. The couple had two children and moved to Austin in the 1950’s. Leland passed away on June 25, 1962. In 1967 Gloria married Norman Opsahl. They had one daughter and were later divorced. Gloria worked at several retail shops and cared for her grandchildren when they were infants. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary, she was a Boy Scout Leader and Girl Scout Leader, did a lot of needle work, loved to camp, enjoyed eating out with friends and spent several winters in Texas.

Survivors include a son, Steven Housker of Greenbelt, Maryland; two daughters: Debra (Mark) Johnson of Shawnee, Kansas and Renae (Darin) Simonson of Austin; four grandchildren: Matthew Johnson, Elizabeth (Kent) Padomek, Allison Simonson, Tori Simonson; one great granddaughter, Ella; brother, Verdon Erickson of Owatonna. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will be at Spring Grove Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Erin Schumacher is the soloist, accompanied by Neal Erickson. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Casket bearers are Matthew Johnson, Elizabeth Padomek, Allison Simonson and Tori Simonson. The family prefers memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast.
